Western Digital knows full well its lineup of hard drives for Mac need to offer the storage capacity Mac enthusiasts are looking for, without sacrificing the hardware's style, size or workmanship. That's why the hard drive manufacturer is upping its popular family of hard drives for Mac - the My Passport Studio and My Passport - to 1 TB, while keeping their look minimalistic and iPhone 4-like.
My Passport Studio The My Passport Studio hard drive (the black WD device) is geared for creative professionals who use their Macs to handle large media files like magazine-quality photos and 1080p HD videos. That's why the Studio drive is equipped with two FireWire 800 ports and one micro-USB 2.0 connector so it can transfer large files quickly, and connect with as many devices as possible.
It can even 'daisy chain' with other hard drives or other gadgets like a HD camcorder if necessary. Housed in a metal, scratch resistant enclosure, the 500 GB Studio starts at $130, the 750 GB for $160, and $180 for the 1 TB version. My Passport for Mac The My Passport line (the silver WD device), on the other hand, is for consumers and frequent flyers who just need something portable (with more capacity than a flash drive or SD card) that they can slip into their bag wherever they take their Macs. According to its press release, My Passport is 'ultra-compact and lightweight,' and only connects to the computer via its USB 2.0 port, which makes for a great travel companion as you wouldn't need to pack multiple cords just to your access files. At just $100 for 500 GB, $120 for 750 GB and $130 for 1 TB, My Passport drives' prices are easier to stomach than the My Passport Studio's. Both sets of WD hard drives also offer security features like built-in support for Time Machine to backup your important files, and will ship with encryption and password protection software.
You can find My Passport Studio and My Passport hard drives on now or wait till they arrive in select retailers soon. Source: WD press release Related Topics.
